Can I appeal a declined SASSA SRD status?
If your SASSA SRD R370/R350 status is declined, you can appeal online within 90 days of the SASSA decision date. The appeal is free. Lodge one appeal for each declined month at srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal. The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) decides it, usually in 60–90 days.
Regulation 6 provides a 90-day appeal period from the decision date: SRD regulations, regulation 6.
This is an appeal to the Independent Tribunal, not a new application. Those 90 days run from the SASSA decision date, not from the day you check your status. And the window is 90 days, not 30. Start by checking your current SRD status to confirm the declined month and the reason. The official SASSA SRD portal has the current rules.

About this tool
For this estimate, the decision date is day 0 and the next day is day 1. The calculation uses calendar days, including weekends and public holidays. This tool estimates 90 days after the date you enter; confirm the portal cutoff and submit early.
This is a guide, not a SASSA decision. Confirm the date on the official portal at srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal. For help, call SASSA free on 0800 60 10 11 (Mon–Fri, 08:00–16:00) or email srd@sassa.gov.za.
How do I appeal online for a declined SRD month?
Appeal on the official SASSA appeals page using your ID number and the reason shown for your decline. Do not pay anyone to appeal for you.
You can appeal each declined month separately, and the appeal is free. Follow these steps:
- Check your status at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status and note the declined month and the reason shown.
- Open srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal and appeal that month.
- Complete the form using your ID number, the declined month and the reason shown. Submit it.
- Keep your reference number. The decision usually takes 60–90 days.
Lodge the appeal as soon as you see the declined month. Do not wait for the last day of your 90 days.
What should I put in my SRD appeal?
Your appeal should explain why the decline was wrong and include any proof that your income or circumstances meet the SRD rules.
Use the exact reason shown for your declined month. If the reason is income, attach proof of your income. If the reason is your circumstances, attach proof of those circumstances.
Keep the appeal short and factual. Clear facts and the right proof are better than many pages. Never send your PIN, and do not pay anyone to help you.
What happens if my SRD appeal is successful?
If your appeal succeeds, your status changes to approved and payment follows in the next SRD pay window.
SRD payments are batched in the monthly window, usually 21st–30th. Payment can also wait for banking verification, about 3–7 working days. Check the outcome at srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status. While the appeal is open, it may show Appeal Pending.
See SRD payment dates after approval for the monthly windows.
If your appeal fails and your circumstances change, you can apply for SRD R370/R350.
